Introduction and aim: Research shows that personality characteristics play an important role in studying factors affecting anxiety among older adults. Despite the importance of this relationship, its underlying mechanism is still unclear. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the mediating role of sense of coherence in the relationship between neuroticism and self-esteem as personality characteristics and anxiety among older adults. Methods: A cross-sectional and correlational design was used for this study. The sample included 230 community-dwelling older adults (aged 60-97) from November to December 2019 in Tehran. Data on sociodemographic variables, Geriatric Anxiety Inventory-20 (Pachana, 2007), Sense of Coherence-13 (Antonovsky, 1993), Big Five Inventory (Rammstedt & John, 2007) and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965) based on a multi-stage sampling approach were collected and analyzed with the structural equation modeling. Results: The older adults with high scores in neuroticism and low self-esteem showed a low level of sense of coherence. Low level of sense of coherence was associated with fewer symptoms of anxiety in older adults. Besides, sense of coherence partially mediated the relationship between personality characteristics (neuroticism and self-esteem) and anxiety in the elderly. Conclusion: Regarding the mediating effect of sense of coherence in the relationship between personality characteristics (neuroticism and self-esteem) and anxiety, improving the level of sense of coherence may be an acceptable intervention to alleviate anxiety among older adults that suffer from neuroticism and low self-esteem.

Suicidal ideation represents a clinical emergency in psychiatry and individuals with suicidal ideation had a higher risk for suicide attempt than ones with non-suicidal ideation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediation role of depression in the relationship between resilience and problem-oriented and emotion-oriented coping strategies with suicidal ideation. The present study was a correlational research based on structural equation modeling (SEM). In this regard, using multi-stage random sampling method, a sample of 372 students was selected from the students of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz. Participants completed the Beck Suicide Ideation Scale (BSI), the Connor & Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RIS), the Stress Coping Questionnaire, and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-13). Structural equation modeling method was used to analyze the data. The results showed that there is a significant negative relationship between resilience and problem-oriented coping strategy with depression, but there is a significant positive relationship between emotion-oriented coping strategy and depression. The most important finding is that depression acts as a mediator in the relationship between resilience and problem-oriented and emotion-oriented coping strategies with suicidal ideation (p < 0.001). Based on the findings of the present study, it can be concluded that resilience, problem-oriented and emotion-oriented coping strategies and depression are the main factors influencing suicidal ideation and can predict suicidal ideation.

Introduction: This research aims to dtermine Structural Model of Emotion regulation and symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in students. Method: for this aim, 462 students of Shiraz University (223 female, 241 male) were selected using stratified random sampling as statistical sample. This participant responded to Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS), Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire-IV (GADQ-IV). Data analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Results: results of SEM showed that among difficulties in emotional regulation, limited access to emotional regulation strategies effect on symptoms of GAD directly and indirectly, with mediating of worry. Also, these results indicate that difficulties engaging in goal-directed behaviors can only effect directly on symptoms of GAD. Conclusion: in general, these results show that emotional regulation components can affect symptoms of GAD in general population, so that increasing difficulties in emotional regulation due to increasing worry and symptoms of GAD.
