Cognition is mediated and combined by mental processes formed by internal speech and cognitive processes play a key role in generalized anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The aim of this study was to compare the frequency and content of inner speech in people with generalized anxiety disorder traits, obsessive-compulsive disorder traits and normal. 348 (boys: 203, girls: 145) students of Shahid Beheshti University were selected by convenience sampling method and participants answered the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Scale (Spitzer et al., 2006), the Self-talk Scale (Brinthaupt et al.., 2009) and the Padua Inventory–Washington State University Revision (Burns et al.., 1996). Findings were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and multivariate analysis of variance. The results showed a significant difference in frequency between the normal group and clinical groups. Also, the research findings showed a significant difference between the normal group and clinical groups in the negative subscales of inner speech content (self-criticism and social assessment) and not the positive subscales (self-regulation and self-reinforcement).

This study was conducted with the aim of the effectiveness of cognitive self-compassion training on the dimensions of fatigue, self-criticism and emotional avoidance in patients with multiple sclerosis. The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design and follow-up (2 months). Subjects with an age range of 20-40 years and with a scale of physical disability (EDSS) 1 to 5.5 and purposefully selected and randomly divided into experimental group (cognitive self-compassion training) and control. Both groups answered Fisk (1994), Thompson & Zuroff (2004) levels of self criticism scale (2004) and Kennedy (2015) Emotional Avoidance Scale in the pre-test-post-test and 2-month follow-up stages. The experimental group received 10 sessions of cognitive self-compassion training once a week for 1.5 hours. The collected data were analyzed using mixed analysis of covariance with repeated measures. The results of covariance analysis mixed with repeated measures showed that cognitive self-compassion training is effective in reducing the dimensions of fatigue, self-criticism and emotional avoidance in patients with multiple sclerosis. Also, the effects of the intervention were maintained after 2 months of follow-up on reducing the scores of fatigue, self-criticism and emotional avoidance. Based on the results of this study, cognitive self-compassion training can be used along with drug interventions to reduce fatigue, self-criticism and avoid emotional experiences of multiple sclerosis patients in medical centers.

This study deals with the direct role of perfectionism components in depression and their indirect mediating role in depression. To this end, 200 students at Bu-Ali Sina University in Hamedan were selected using the stratified random sampling method and responded to the research instruments, including perfectionism scale, self-criticism scale, and Beck's Depression Inventory. Pearson correlation and path analysis were applied in data collection. Results of the former indicated that there is a significant relation between the components of perfectionism and self-criticism and depression. In addition, there was a significant relation between self-criticism and depression. Path analysis results suggest that beta coefficient of other oriented perfectionism path to depression and community oriented perfectionism path to self-criticism is not significant, while the other path coefficients were significant. Good fit of model indices also demonstrated that the model has a good fit vis-à-vis the model. Overall, the results showed that perfectionism and self-criticism account for 59% of the variance of depression, and self-oriented perfectionism and other-oriented perfectionism account for 33% of the variance of self-criticism. Overall, one could draw the conclusion from the collected information that the subjects' depression could remarkably be controlled through reformed self-criticism and components of perfectionism.
