Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: Childhood traumas and behavioral problems can have a profound effect on psychological characteristics and mental health of individuals throughout their lives. The aim of this study was to present a model for predicting suicidal thoughts based on childhood traumas and behavioral problems by mediating stressful life events in female adolescents in Khorramabad.
Method: The present study is a correlation of structural equation modeling. The statistical population of the study consisted of 800 female adolescents in the age group of 14 to 18 years old in Khorramabad city who were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling. The measurement tools included the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), Adolescent Self-Assessment Scale (YSR), Suicidal Ideation Scale (BSSI), Academic Stress Scale (Zajakova), Gender Discrimination Scale (Klonoff and Landrine) and Drug Tendency Scale (Mousavi et al.) Was. Data were analyzed using structural equation analysis (SEA) using SPSS-19 and AMOS-19 software.
Results: The results showed that the proposed model was well-fitted (RMSEA=0.08 p < 0.001). In this model, childhood traumas had a significant indirect effect on suicidal thoughts through behavioral problems (p < 0.05, (β = 0.59). Additionally, childhood traumas had an effect on suicidal thoughts through stressful events (β = 0.22), behavioral problems had an effect on suicidal thoughts through stressful events (β = 0.54), life stress events (β = 0.48), and behavioral problems (β = 0.46) also had a significant direct effect on suicidal thoughts (p < 0.05).
Discussion: Suicidal ideation can be affected by early childhood traumas and behavioral problems resulting from these traumas with the mediating role of stressful life events. The findings of this study can help the authorities to identify the risk factors and factors of suicide, and health professionals can use this research to develop a suicide prevention program for students.
