The main purpose of the present study is to establish a theoretical framework for existential psychotherapy and develop an existential psychotherapy package on the basis of Mowlana’s thoughts. It also aims at evaluating the effectiveness of the therapy proposed in decreasing depression and improving the ego development level. The study design consisted of two distinct qualitative and quantitative parts. The methodology applied for the quantitative part was pretest-posttest with control group. The statistical population was clients of mental health centers of the universities located at Tehran over summer and autumn 2010. Of this, 32 students were randomly selected to participate in the study. The experimental group was treated with the therapy proposed while the control group did not receive any treatment. According to the statistical analyses (co-variance and t-test), the therapy proposed was found to be effective in decreasing depression as well as increasing the ego development level among the participants. This finding is of great importance due to the high prevalence of depression in most of the societies and the necessity of its treatment by an efficient method as well as the importance of ego development level and the need for reaching a method for its improvement. Therefore, it can be concluded that in addition to opening new directions in different fields of psychology, including religion psychology, personality psychology, and psychopathology, this work can be considered as a multidisciplinary study which bridges the three fields of psychology mentioned.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is one of the most important psycho-physiological disorders that influence happiness, psychological well-being and life quality and cause heart attacks and arteriosclerosis. The present research seeks to study the effectiveness of group stress inoculation training (SIT) in the systolic and diastolic blood pressure and life quality of women suffering from high blood pressure. The method of research was semi-experimental, and its design was pretest-posttest with control group. Through life quality questionnaire and manometer, a sample of 30 women with low life quality and blood pressure of more than 130/90 mmHg were selected and voluntarily divided into experimental and control groups. Experimental group received 10 sessions of SIT techniques while control group received no training. Then, the life quality and blood pressure of the participants were measured again. The data were analyzed using ANCOVA for the first and second hypotheses and t-test of the comparison of the independent means with differential scores for the third hypothesis. The results showed that the observed F-value in both systolic (3.09) and diastolic (3.17) blood pressure and the observed t-test in the life quality (3.30) were significant (p≤0.05). Theresearch, thus, underlines the important role SIT method plays in decreasing systolic and diastolic blood pressure and increasing life quality of women suffering from high blood pressure.

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of schema therapy on decreasing hypochondria of persons consulting health care centers in Urmia. For this purpose, the method of random sampling was used to choose 20 participants out of the whole clients consulting health care centers in Urmia. The participants were randomly divided into experimental and control groups, and Illness Attitudes Scale was administered as the pre-test. The experimental group received 20 sessions of schema therapy while the control group received no intervention. The same test was administered to both groups as the post-test and follow-up test. The analysis of covariance method was used to interpret the results. The results showed that the level of hypochondria in experimental group was significantly lower than the control group in post-test and follow-up test (p<0/001).

The purpose of this study is to compare the impact of cognitive-behavioral therapy and metacognitive therapy on social phobia symptoms of Hamadan city patients. In this experimental design, among the patients with social phobia who referred to psychological and guidance clinics of Hamadan in 2011, 45 subjects were selected through simple random sampling method, and 15 subjects were randomly assigned in the first experimental group (cognitive-behavior therapy), 15 subjects in the second experimental group (meta-cognitive therapy) and 15 subjects in the control group. The first experimental group received eight sessions (two hours) of cognitive-behavior therapy intervention during two months, the second experimental group received eight sessions (two hours) of meta-cognitive therapy intervention during two months while the control group received no intervention. The data collection instrument was Moshaveri's Social Phobia Assessment Scale. The result of the one-way ANOVA analysis of data showed that there was a significant difference between the three group's post-test and mean score of social phobia dependant variable (F=10.80, p<00.1). Moreover, LSD post hoc test indicated the reduction of social phobia symptoms of experimental groups rather than the control group in post-test, but there was no significant differences between the experimental groups' scores (p>0.5).

The presence of one of the couple (wife) in therapy with intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy approach can improve the marital relationship. The purpose of present study is to determine the effectiveness of intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy in decreasing the marital conflict in women. The study was administered with a quasi-experimental design and case study in the centers of psychology and counseling in Tehran. Five women who had marital conflict and were appropriate for short-term dynamic psychotherapy were sampled purposefully. They participated individually in 12–15 therapeutic sessions with Davanloo’s Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. Marital conflict questionnaire was completed by participants in two stages, before and one week after intervention. The data were analyzed by dependent t-test. The results showed that the marital conflict of women of case study (n=5) was less than that before the intervention. Intervention treatments, based on the intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy, can be useful for decreasing marital conflict in women.

The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of meditation on depression and anxiety of female students. In this quasi-experimental and application study, 100 women of 18 to 48 years of age were selected through available sampling method to represent the experimental group (50 subjects) and the control group (50 subjects). Zung Anxiety Scale and BDI were used to gather data in pre-test and post-test. The results showed that meditation method had significant impact on depression and anxiety of women (p<0/001). The women that received meditation method had lower levels of depression and anxiety. Meditation technique is useful in treating anxiety and depression in female women. Thus, it is necessary to use this intervention in clinics.

Hermeneutics is the art of the interpretation and understanding of discourses like language and text. This study seeks to develop a methodological model for the researches on humanities and particularly psychotherapy and counseling which would in turn provide a hermeneutic model for therapeutic modeling on the basis of tradition and local resources. It aims at developing a new methodology for modeling which is inspired by the hermeneutic theory and the views held by Gadamer and Heidegger. It is based on two basic concepts; the merger of horizons and hermeneutic circle. The merger of horizons is demonstrated to be the result of hermeneutic and dialogic circle and lead to understanding. Three horizons of agent, author and interpreter are recognized in the study. Tapping his /her background knowledge and horizon, the interpreter enters the understanding of the text or the experience of the participant as the horizon of author. Later, he/she enters various interpretations and approaches in order to enrich the understanding of the text. The researcher reaches the understanding of the text thorough the hermeneutic circle.
